Cannes 2003

Dieses Jahr (vom 14. bis zum 25. Mai) gibt es in CANNES wieder viele wunderbare Filme zu sehen. Gespannt bin ich ja wie die Kritiken zu Trier's "Dogville" ausfallen werden. Natürlich auch wie das die Europäer auf das Sequel der Matrix Trilogie reagieren werden. Eastwoods "Mystic River" soll auch überzeugen können. Am meisten interessiert mich aber z.Z. mehr über Vincent Gallo's "The Brown Bunny" zu erfahren. Worum geht es da?

"It's the story of one man's tragic loss of the love of his life. He is Bud Clay. And he races motorcycles. He rides in the 250cc Formula II class of road racing. Round and round he goes, repeating laps over and over until the race is over. The story begins with Bud racing in New Hampshire. Bud's next race is in California in five Days. And so his journey begins across America. And everyday Bud is haunted by the same memories of the last time he saw his true love. Bud will do anything to make those memories disappear. And every day he tries to find a new love. Making outrageous requests of women to come with him on his trip and then leaving them behind after they've agreed. He can't replace Daisy, the only girl he's ever loved and the only girl he will ever love. But every day he tries"

Sehr seltsam wird das ganze dann erst durch eine Meldung vom Branchenfachblatt "Variety":

"Maverick Filmmaker Gallo's picture concerns a young motorcycle racer's loss of the love of his life and promises to be one of this year's "scandales" based on a hardcore oral sex scene featuring Chloe Sevigny and Gallo."

Am meisten gespannt warte ich natürlich auf den neuen von Trier (sicherlich allein schon des Namens wegen ein Kandidat für einige Preise ), aber auch Sokurovs "Father And Son" (eine Fortsetzung zu seinem großartigen "Mother And Son"?), die neuen Filme von Raul Ruiz und Samira Makhmalbaf, sowie die der in diesem Jahr auffallend viel vertretenen Franzosen sind natürlich von hohem Interesse.

Und wie gerne würde ich die Fellini-Retrospektive auf der Open-Air-Leinwand am Strand verfolgen. Tja, das Leben ist ungerecht...

Ich vermisse in der Liste Tarantinos "Kill Bill". Soweit ich weiß war der offiziel für Cannes angekündigt. Weiß jemand näheres?

Warum "KILL BILL" nicht in Cannes gezeigt wird?
Dazu gebe ich einfach mal Auszüge aus einem Beitrag von Harry Knowles zum Besten:

"There seems to be a lot of belief that for some odd reason, Quentin Tarantino and Robert Altman deliberately held their films out of Cannes this year due to the "anti-French" feelings permeating the United States of America. Back in February it was general knowledge that Quentin wouldn't have KILL BILL ready in time for Cannes. His shoot went long and he had a couple of weeks of pick-up shots that he did after principal photography. Which basically would have amounted to about two months of post-production prior to Cannes, and on this type of film, there was a lot more post-work than on films like Res Dogs, Pulp or Jackie. As for Altman, he's a noted peace-lover and I'm willing to bet that George Bush isn't Altman's altar boy of the moment. He's long loved the French, and I doubt national hysteria has gotten to him."

Er ist scheinbar einfach noch nicht fertig, schön von Tarantino fände ich es ja wenn er wie Jackson auch wenigstens einen Zusammenschnitt von 20-30 Minuten dem europäischen Kino zuerst zeigen würde. So wie Jackson es mit seinen "Mines of Moria" Szenen aus "Fellowship of the Ring" 2001 gemacht hat. Das Publikum war begeistert, es gab schon früh sehr gute Presse über den Film und die Stimmung wie auch die Erwartungshaltung auf den Film wurden dementsprechend enorm groß.

Und wie gerne würde ich die Fellini-Retrospektive auf der Open-Air-Leinwand am Strand verfolgen. Tja, das Leben ist ungerecht...

Ist "La Strada" gut? Warum ich frage? Ach, ich glaub bloss zufaellig, dass ich am Donnerstag nach Cannes rueberfahre ...ich freu mich auf The Woman Who Thought She's the President of the United States...schrill.
Die Spanischlehrerin meinte sie hat letztes Jahr dort am Strand David Lynch getroffen...echt netter und bodenstaendiger als man meinen koennte.

Was kostet das denn, und muss man dort französisch können ?

Ich habe überhaupt keine Ahnung, was es kostet. Ich habe auch auf der Website nichts derart Profanes wie Preise gefunden.
Ich denke auch nicht, daß man jetzt noch Karten für die Vorstellungen bekommen könnte, aber ich lasse mich da gerne eines Besseren belehren.

Und nein, in der Regel muß man dort nicht unbedingt Französisch können, weil dort - wegen des völlig internationalen Publikums - die meisten Filme englisch untertitelt gezeigt werden.

Und was für eine Frage soll das sein, ob "La Strada" gut ist? Ich mein... wenn du die Chance hast, in Cannes einen Fellini-Film "open air" am Strand zu sehen... wer stellt da Fragen, ob "La Strada" gut ist? ... und außerdem: Natürlich ist der gut - it's Fellini!
Obwohl "La Dolce Vita" am darauffolgenden Abend zugegebenermaßen noch besser ist... :wink:

Am Strand ist Kino kostenlos. Die anderen - besonders die in der Competition - sind schwer zu erreichen... Da soll man sich lieber auf ein kleineres Festival zurueckziehen, das parallel laeuft. Quinzaine des Realisateurs zum Beispiel, wo Jim Jarmush schon entdeckt wurde. Da kommt man schon fuer 5 Euro rein.

Ich weiß ich bin viel zu spät dran:
Ab heute kommt täglich um 20:15 Uhr auf ARTE "Film Festival Cannes" - aktuelle Reportagen und Interviews aus dem größten Filmfestival der Welt. Bis zum 24.05. laufen diese Cannes-Tageshighlights.
Werde ich mir auf jeden Fall einmal anschauen...
