paul thomas anderson und daniel day-lewis. was für eine kombination! das drehbuch muss wirklich gut sein, denn daniel day-lewis, der ja sonst als schuster arbeitet, sucht sich nur ganz bestimmte projekte aus und er bereitet sich seit fünf monaten, zum damaligen zeitpunkt war es noch nicht mal sicher, ob der film überhaupt gedreht wird, auf seine rolle vor. die dreharbeiten sollen im mai beginnen.

Dear Mr. Paul Thomas Anderson.

Greetings and salutations. You don't know me, and perhaps never will so there is no special reason why you should read what I have to say. I can say that from what I know about you, I have the highest respect and gratitude for your work. Magnolia is a favorite that I'll never tire of, and Punch Drunk Love while subtle and bizarre is a flavor to remember. Through a series of events that would be far too complicated for me to summarize succinctly, I have come into possession of something very special: your script 'There Will Be Blood'.

As if simply possessing it weren't enough, I've also read it! Let me start off by saying... I'm overjoyed. I'm elated. I'm ecstatic. I also have a splitting headache... I have never read a script like this before. And while this subject is nothing to be 'overjoyed' about per say, it was so refreshing to read something as original and thought provoking, that I'm literally giddy. This script is so far removed from your past work, that based on the differences alone, I think it is a work of brilliance. I am 100% positive that your film will win Best Screenplay at the Oscars - if you even care about such things. Speaking of which: how on earth are you going to make this film? You've written what I consider a potential masterpiece... and at 153 pages... lets just say I can see Hollywood going for Underworld 3 first.

A NOTE TO 'HOLLYWOOD': Fuck UnderWorld 3. Back this movie and have another Academy Award winner in your catalog... then sell your catalog for millions when you lose all your money backing insipid films starring Ben Affleck.

Further unsolicited advice: novelize this screenplay. To make this film right, you're going to need about 25 million dollars, at least. Build a fan base, win some literary awards - get the funding you need in place before you're backed into a corner and squeezed. With the film in book form, it will be taken seriously. Lastly, I heard that Daniel Day Lewis is in contention for the main role in the film - GET DANIEL DAY LEWIS, that would be a masterstroke.

To others reading this letter, this film isn't your normal fare for popcorn crazed box-office fodder. This is a story so simple that to explain it is to be lost in its complexities. The film concerns a man named Daniel, an oil prospector in the early 1900's. His quest to find and extract oil leads him on a rather confounded path lined with madness. The crux of the story revolves around a small community of people, namely a poor downtrodden religious family the Sundays, and their involvement in Daniel's agenda. It is here that Daniel interfaces with his counterpart, the Sunday's second-eldest son: a young preacher of 'God's word' whose abnormal evangelical style has made him a local celebrity. Both Daniel and Eli Sunday are looking to 'mine' a commodity deemed invaluable: one for oil, the other-faith. The two are on a collision course that can only be resolved in blood. The truths of this story, for me anyway, revolve around man's eventual need to address the widening gap between reality and superstition. This script speaks volumes about the dangers inherent to nihilism as well as blind faith. All characters are written even handedly, with the perfect moral objectivism that I like to see when pursuing such an existential subject.

I find that it is beyond me to summarize what could be very different by the time it is filmed. I also have a pet peeve with 'readers' such as myself trying to read into a piece and interpreting meaning. That being said there is some wonderful dialogue here, there are scenes we've never seen before and there is a relevance that transcends making this story a universal classic.

Thank you Mr. Anderson for writing this story. I think it is the most anyone can do in this time of moral decay/resurgence. Unfortunately, I still think that middle-America will destroy us all, if Walmart and peak-oil doesn't do it first.

I give this film an A+ Rating.
I expect this film to be an A+ film when made.

Ich bin wirklich dermaßen gespannt auf den Film, dass ich es kaum noch erwarten kann. P.T. Anderson ist ein solch famoser Meisterregisseur. Immer wenn ich mir "Magnolia" anschaue stockt mir schon die ersten 15 Minuten der Atem weil er so brillant ist.
"Hard Eight" war vielleicht noch durchschnittlich, aber "Boogie Nights" hat Anderson bereits als legitimen Nachfolger von Scorsese ausgewiesen und mit "Punch Drunk Love" hat er sich dann noch mal ganz neu erfunden (obwohl ich den Film zuerst gar nicht mochte).
Ich finde es eigentlich sehr gut, dass er sich zwischen seinen Projekten immer so viele Jahre Zeit nimmt um sich zu sammeln, andererseits ist mein Hunger nach dermaßen großen Meisterwerken wie Anderson sie dreht dadurch sehr groß.
"There Will Be Blood" wird ganz sicher noch mal eine neue Welle im modernen amerikanischen, gerade politischen Kino schlagen, die hoffentlich einiges mehr an Aufmerksamkeit auf sich ziehen wird als der vielfach unterschätzte "Magnolia" seinerzeit (keinen einzigen Oscar). Man darf gespannt sein!!!

Der neue Paul Thomas Anderson Film sieht sehr interessant aus. Mir gefallen sowieso Filme, bei denen der Bösewicht die eigentliche Hauptrolle im Film hat. Und diese Rolle ist mit Daniel Day-Lewis hervorragend besetzt. Schon in Gangs of New York konnte er mich von seiner "bösen" Seite überzeugen.

In der Tat sehr interessant. Waren Andersons frühere Filme noch ganz klar an Scorsese orientiert, erinnert dieser Trailer irgendwie sehr an Sergio Leone. Sieht auch ganz danach aus als könnte Lewis seine unglaubliche One Man Show aus Gangs of New York noch einmal wiederholen. Ich bin jedenfalls gespannt.
